3 Women Officers Represent India At World Defence Show In Riyadh Saudi Arabia

Three women officers from the Indian Defence forces took the spotlight at the World Defence Show (WDS) 2024, currently underway in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. 

Squadron Leader Bhawana Kanth, Colonel Ponung Doming, and Lieutenant Commander Annu Prakash not only showcased India’s commitment to Nari Shakti but also brought their exceptional expertise to the forefront of international discussions on defense.

The World Defence Show 2024, which commenced on February 4, is set to culminate on February 8.

Colonel Ponung Doming, a distinguished officer from the Indian Army, made history as the first woman to command the world’s highest border task force, stationed above 15,000 feet in the northern sector.

Squadron Leader Bhawana Kanth, a trailblazing fighter pilot from the Indian Air Force, emerged as a key speaker at the ‘International Women in Defence: Investing in Leadership’ seminar held on February 7. 

The Squadron Leader captivated the audience with her inspiring journey, narrating the challenges she faced and triumphs she achieved in becoming the first female fighter pilot to participate in the Republic Day Parade (2021). Her remarkable presence also graced the Republic Day 2024 Flypast.

Lieutenant Commander Annu Prakash, representing the Indian Navy, brought her expertise in maritime security and operations to the international stage. Her presence underscored the pivotal role women play in safeguarding India’s extensive coastline and ensuring regional stability. 

The Ministry of Defence emphasized that the participation of these three exceptional women officers at WDS 2024 serves as a testament to the expanding role of Indian women in the defense landscape. 

The trio’s presence at the seminars provided a platform to share their experiences, insights, and leadership skills, inspiring both domestic and global audiences.

As part of their engagement at WDS 2024, Colonel Ponung Doming, Squadron Leader Bhawana Kanth, and Lieutenant Commander Annu Prakash are slated to deliver a presentation to about 600 schoolchildren from various schools. This event aims to showcase the diverse talents and leadership skills of Indian women in uniform, inspiring future generations to pursue their dreams and break new ground.
