In response to the recent announcement of Bharat Ratna awards for former Prime Ministers PV Narasimha Rao, Chaudhary Charan Singh and scientist MS Swaminathan Congress leader Sonia Gandhi expressed her appreciation for the recognition bestowed upon the stalwarts.
When questioned about the Bharat Ratna announcements for the former PMs and Dr. Swaminathan, Sonia Gandhi remarked, “I welcome them. Why not?”.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi posted three separate messages on his official account, emphasizing the significant contributions of the awardees. This revelation follows the recent honors given to Lal Krishna Advani and Karpoori Thakur, bringing the total count of Bharat Ratna recipients to five in the current year.
Relatives of P.V. Narasimha Rao expressed their satisfaction with the government’s decision while pointing fingers at the Congress and the Gandhis for allegedly neglecting their leader’s contributions.
PM Modi, in his posts, acknowledged the transformative measures implemented during Narasimha Rao’s term, stating, “Narasimha Rao Garu’s tenure as Prime Minister was marked by significant measures that opened India to global markets, fostering a new era of economic development.”
Similarly, he praised Dr. MS Swaminathan for his monumental contributions to agriculture and farmers’ welfare, highlighting the vital role played in achieving self-reliance and modernizing Indian agriculture.
The Bharat Ratna announcements in the past month under the Modi government have reached a total of five, contributing to the ten Bharat Ratna honors awarded by the BJP-led NDA government over the last decade.
