Melodious Maestro Anup Ghoshal aged 78 breathed his last on Friday due to multi-organ failure. Kolkata mourns the loss of Anup Ghoshal, the acclaimed Bengali singer celebrated for his soulful iconic ‘Tujhse Naraz Nahi Zindagi’ from the 1983 film ‘Masoom’ and his significant contributions to several musical masterpieces directed by Satyajit Ray.
Anup Ghoshal’s musical journey began at the tender age of 4 when he lent his voice for an All India Radio program. He started his playback singing career with the iconic 1969 Satyajit Ray film ‘Goopy Gyne Bagha Byne’ and later served as an assistant for the music team of many Ray films.
His collaboration with Satyajit Ray reached its pinnacle with the National Award-winning song for the 1981 film ‘Hirak Rajar Deshe.’ However, it was the evergreen ‘Tujhse Naraz Nahi Zindagi’ from the 1983 Hindi film ‘Masoom’ that catapulted Ghoshal to nationwide fame.
The versatile artist, who had a remarkable career spanning decades, had etched his name in the world of music. Notably, he successfully contested the 2011 assembly polls from the Uttarpara seat on the Trinamool Congress ticket, leaving behind a legacy survived by his two daughters.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed her condolences, acknowledging the profound loss to the world of music.
