Poonch Terror Attack: Five Soldiers Martyred in Ambush, Massive Search Operation Underway

The Poonch terror attack, resulting in the loss of five soldiers. Army vehicles faced a barrage of gunfire at a blind curve in the Dhatyar Morh region between Dhera Ki Gali and Bufliaz, within the Surankote police station’s jurisdiction, around 3.45 pm. The attack unfolded during a joint search operation prompted by intelligence inputs on terrorist presence in the Dhera Ki Gali area of the Thanamandi-Surankote region in Poonch district on Wednesday night.

Jammu-based defense PRO Lt Col Suneel Bartwal reported that as additional forces were en route to the site, terrorists targeted the Army vehicles—a truck and a Gypsy. The troops responded swiftly to the attack, and an ongoing operation is underway to gather further details.

Security forces intensified their efforts with a search operation in the forest area of Dera Ki Gali in the Rajouri sector of Poonch district, following the previous day’s deadly attack that claimed the lives of five Army jawans.

In response to the heinous act, security forces initiated a massive cordon and search operation in the forest area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district. Aerial monitoring and the deployment of sniffer dogs are part of the comprehensive efforts to track down the terrorists responsible for ambushing two Army vehicles.

The People’s Anti-Fascist Front (PAFF), an offshoot of the proscribed terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM), claimed responsibility for the attack, using US-made M4 carbine rifles during the assault. The chosen location of Dhatyar Morh in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district facilitated the terrorists’ ambush, strategically capitalizing on a blind curve and uneven terrain. Despite security forces retaliating, the terrorists managed to escape from the scene.

The nation mourns the loss of its brave soldiers, and as investigations and operations unfold, the incident sheds light on the ongoing challenges faced by security forces in the region.
