Hyderabad: 28-year-old Laxmi Narayana Vinjam lost his life during a smile-enhancement surgery, raising concerns over medical safety and sparking an investigation into the tragic incident.
On February 16, Laxmi Narayana Vinjam underwent a ‘smile designing’ procedure at the FMS International Dental Clinic located in Hyderabad’s Jubilee Hills. The surgery, intended to enhance his smile just weeks before his scheduled wedding, took a fatal turn.
According to police officials, Laxmi Narayana arrived at the clinic at approximately 2:30 pm, and the procedure began around 4:30 pm, lasting nearly two hours. Around 7 pm, the clinic contacted his father, Ramulu Vinjam, and he was swiftly rushed to Apollo Hospital in Jubilee Hills. Tragically, he was declared dead on arrival, and the body has been sent for autopsy.
Ramulu Vinjam, grief-stricken father of the deceased, alleges that his son died due to an overdose of anesthesia. Speaking about the incident, Mr. Vinjam stated, “We rushed him to a nearby hospital, where the doctors declared him dead on arrival.” He further revealed that his son had not informed the family about the surgery, and he held the clinic responsible for the tragedy, emphasizing that Laxmi Narayana had no prior health issues.
The police have taken action by registering a case against the dental clinic under Section 304A of the Indian Penal Code for causing death by negligence. Laxmi Narayana Vinjam, who had recently become engaged and was eagerly preparing for his upcoming wedding next month, now leaves behind a grief-stricken family.
