Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is all set to present the Interim Budget 2024–25 on February 1, marking her sixth consecutive budget presentation. As this year the Lok Sabha elections will be there, the budget will be a crucial vote-on-account, granting the government the authority to allocate funds until a new government takes office post the 2024 elections.
Traditionally, budgets have been presented on the last working day of February. However, this practice was altered during the first term of the PM Modi government under the tenure of former Finance Minister Arun Jaitley.
With the 2024 budget presentation, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will etch her name in history, joining the ranks of former Prime Minister Morarji Desai as the only other official to present six consecutive budgets—comprising five annual budgets and one interim.
