Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Accuses Gandhi Family of Corruption, Labels Rahul’s Yatra as ‘Miya Yatra’

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has taken a swipe at the Gandhi family, branding them as the most corrupt family in the country. The accusations, ranging from the Bofors case to the Bhopal gas tragedy, were made as part of a critique during the ongoing Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra led by Congress MP Rahul Gandhi.

CM Sarma went on to accuse the Gandhi family of facilitating the escape of Warren Anderson following the Bhopal tragedy and also alleged the use of a false name by the family. In a significant move, he rebranded the yatra led by Rahul Gandhi as ‘Miya Yatra,’ claiming it primarily focuses on areas densely populated by the Miya community, raising questions about its true intent.

Earlier in the day, the Congress party accused the Assam government, led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), of obstructing the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra. Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh asserted that the Assam government under Himanta Biswa Sarma, is actively working to hinder the success of the yatra.

Sarma, in response to the allegations, canceled his scheduled programs in the upper districts of the state on Thursday and Friday to avoid clashes with the Congress’ Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra events. He justified the cancellation by pointing to the coincidence of the yatra’s schedule with the welfare dates already planned by his government.

Accusing the Congress Yatra of “espousing the cause of anti-Hinduism,” Sarma clarified, “We are pro-Hindu, but we are not anti-Muslim or anti-Christian or against any community.”

The Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, led by Rahul Gandhi, commenced on January 14 from Manipur and is set to conclude in Mumbai on March 20.
