Tata Motors has officially revealed the Tata Punch EV, the smallest electric SUV in India. This eco-friendly vehicle, built on the new Gen-2 Pure EV platform, signifies a remarkable shift from internal combustion engines to an electric powertrain. The Punch EV, Tata’s second foray into electric SUVs following the Nexon, stands out by also offering a Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) version, a second for the automaker after the Tigor.
Booking Open for the Futuristic Punch EV
Enthusiasts and prospective buyers can now secure their interest in the Punch EV as bookings have opened with a token amount of ₹21,000. This marks Tata Motors’ first electric vehicle on the Gen-2 Pure EV platform, showcasing a design inspired by the Nexon EV. Notable features include connected LED Daytime Running Lights (DRLs), sleek LED headlights, a sealed grille, fresh alloy designs, and other enhancements.
Tata Punch EV will be offered in five variants – Smart, Smart+, Adventure, Empowered, and Empowered+, across four monotones and five dual-tone color options.
Advanced Technology and Safety Features
The Punch EV promises an enhanced driving experience with a platform ensuring improved range, a larger battery, and faster charging capabilities. The minimum range is set at 300 km, extendable up to 600 km based on the battery size, coupled with accelerated charging through 150 kW DC fast chargers. The mid-range and long-range variants come with battery packs of 25 kWh and 35 kWh, respectively, boasting increased width and higher-density cells for 10% enhanced efficiency.
Safety remains paramount, with Tata aiming for a five-star crash test rating. The new EV platform utilizes high-strength materials and optimizes interior space while maintaining ground clearance and performance on challenging terrains. The Punch EV will feature six airbags as a standard safety measure.
Next-Gen Features and Connectivity
Anand Kulkarni, Chief Products Officer at Tata Passenger Electric Mobility, expressed confidence in the Punch EV as the introduction to the next generation of EVs. While the vehicle won’t feature level-2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) technology, the new EV platform is designed for 5G connectivity and enables Vehicle to Load (V2L) and Vehicle to Vehicle Charging (V2V) technology. The Cloud Architecture ensures potential for sophisticated in-car applications and future over-the-air updates.
Features and Pricing Details of Punch EV
The Punch EV boasts an impressive array of features, including a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.23-inch virtual cockpit, ventilated front seats, an electric sunroof, and a 360-degree camera. While pricing details are yet to be disclosed, the Punch EV is anticipated to be competitively priced between Rs 10 to Rs 13 lakh, setting a new benchmark for affordable and feature-rich electric SUVs. The official pricing is expected to be revealed later this month.
