In the recent release of eight Indian Navy veterans in Qatar, speculation arose suggesting Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan played a pivotal role in securing their freedom. However, the actor’s office has denied any involvement, putting an end to the rumors circulating on social media.
The release of the naval officers, who had been sentenced to death on espionage charges, was a diplomatic win for India.
While many credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the successful resolution, a different narrative emerged on social media, alleging that Shah Rukh Khan had been instrumental in securing the release.
Reports even suggested that the Indian government sought SRK’s assistance due to his close relations with the Emir of Qatar.
But a statement from Shah Rukh Khan’s office refuted these claims, stating, “any such assertions of his involvement are unfounded,” emphasizing that the credit lies solely with Indian government officials.
Shah Rukh Khan’s manager, Pooja Dadlani, shared the statement on her official Instagram handle, putting to rest the speculations surrounding the actor’s alleged role.
The statement further highlighted that matters of diplomacy and statecraft are best executed by the country’s leaders, expressing Khan’s joy for the safe return of the naval officers and wishing them the best.
The controversy gained momentum when BJP leader Subramanian Swamy suggested that PM Modi sought Shah Rukh Khan’s intervention, leading to a settlement for the release.
The released Navy veterans expressed their gratitude to PM Modi, acknowledging his personal intervention and strong ties with Qatar as instrumental in their release.
